Minutes of the Annual Meeting
Posey Flyers MAC
January 12, 2008

Meeting called to order at 1:05 pm, Jan.12, at Jim Hazlett's home, President Roger Slocum presiding. 12 members present.

R.Slocum recapped 2007 events. Sec'y. read minutes of 2006 meeting. Approved as read. Treasurer not present. R.Slocum gave summary of annual treasurer's report.

J.Hazlett has a plaque to be posted at the field in memory of Mark Juncker who passed away last year, and acknowledging the donation from the Juncker family.

J.Hazlett gave field report. With rising cost of gasoline and diesel fuel we can expect costs upwards of $400 for the coming year. Runway was re-seeded and fertilized late this past fall at a cost of approximately $100.00. Jim is retiring this winter and advised those present other arrangements will have to be made as to the additional expense as he has in the past been subsidizing field expense.

Election of officers for 2008;

Donn Hinderliter, President
Jason Hinderliter, Vice-President.
Karen Hazlett, Secretary & Treasurer.
Field Marshal, Jim Hazlett
Safety Officer, Earl Schneider.

New business:

Discussed having more meetings. Wednesday's suggested, maybe at the field.

No other business, the meeting was adjourned at 1:30 pm.

Ss: G.Louden, outgoing Secretary.

Minutes of the Annual Meeting
Posey Flyers MAC
January 22, 2006

Meeting called to order by the President Roger Slocum, 1:35pm, at Alexandria Public Library. There were 12 members present.

Roger reviewed the past year's fly- ins, field improvements and accomplishments in general.

Treasurer George Louden read his report. Approved as read.

Dues- It was moved and seconded the dues for 2006 remain at $30.00

Election of officers: Officers of 2005 were re-elected with exception of treasurer.

Jason Hinderliter elected for year 2006. There were no other nominations for any of the offices.

Current officers are:

President,       Roger Slocum
V-Pres.          Duane Higgs
Secretary       George Louden
Treasurer       Jason Hinderliter
Field Marshal Jim Hazlett
Safety Officer Earl Schneider

Roger re-appointed George Louden as AMA Club Contact.

Reports: Jim Hazlett has acquired another Porta-toilet at no charge to the club. It will be moved to Mark Smith's hangar area in the spring for his, his employees, and customers' use. This will\should eliminate those persons who drive up the sometimes wet runway and those who walk the runway during flying sessions.

There was discussion on buying a larger better lit porta-toilet for our use. The Secretary was directed to contact TSF about trading in and authorized to spend $100.00 more or less.

G.Louden suggested having an additional board made to denote Spread Spectrum in use, along with 27mhz frequencies used by some park flyers. This was well received and approved. The S.S. board will accommodate members' AMA cards to show such use.

Flying events: We will again host a Pro-Bro fly in Memorial Day weekend. Our fall fly in 3rd weekend of August.

Fall Club Appreciation Day to be scheduled later this summer.

Other business: . J.Hazlett requested the new checking account have two signatures. All agreed this is a good idea. Roger and Jason will look into this and advise outcome.

J.Hazlett announced he has the sand point, some pipe and the auger for the shallow well to be dug this spring. Carl Lurker volunteered his services to assist.

Again this year there was a request for and a need seen for a club newsletter - monthly or quarterly. No volunteers.

There was discussion on setting the end of the fiscal year and annual meeting back to where it was in 2002. On advice of F.Roales, AMA AVP, we can have our year end whenever we want. It was changed to Jan.1 to accommodate AMA Hq's officer roster and member printout that is sent to each club prior to re-chartering each year.

Scheduling the annual meeting, paying of dues and other concerns just before Christmas doesn't seem to be the best idea for our club. It was passed unanimously to end the year the last day of February. Annual meeting to be held the Sunday prior to the Sugar Bowl game.

The Secretary is directed to research the Bylaws as to how to comply with the date changes. There being no other business the meeting wasdjourned at 2:45pm with Show and Tell by the members following.

Submitted: George Louden, Secretary.

Minutes of the Annual Meeting, December 18, 2004

The annual meeting of Posey Flyers will be held Saturday, December 18th, 1 p.m., at the Alexandrian Public Library, located at North Main St and 6th Sts., in conference room B.

This is the meeting we elect officers for the coming year, discuss any planned activities and improvements to the flying field, and other business that may be presented by the membership.

Members were also reminded that dues are at the beginning of the year now. Dues are still $30.

Potential members, guests are welcomed. Nominations from the floor for officers are in order and you may nominate yourself.

Current officers are:

President, Roger Slocum
V-Pres. Duane Higgs
Sec'y\Treas. George Louden
Field Marshal Jim Hazlett
Safety Officer Earl Schneider

It has been a good year, I think. We are financially sound (Treasurer's Report will be presented at the meeting), the flight instructors have successfully soloed five pilots who have since joined Posey Flyers, the shelter has been improved as has the access road. Jim, Earl, and Mark Smith rebuilt the main runway late this fall to eliminate standing water and it will be ready to use again next spring after rolling. The auxiliary (cross wind) runway has been widened and lengthened, which means weather permitting there is plenty of space for takeoffs and landings.

Membership is up by three this year, with current membership roll at 32.

At this time I'd like to say our field is under utilized. We need someone to step forth and plan more activities for the weekends. Any ideas ??? A series of theme days was proposed and agreed to where participating pilots will get a free hotdog lunch.

Earl Schneider has expressed an interest in printing and distributing a club newsleter. We are glad to hear this. It was suggested even a quarterly letter would be much appreciated and some of the members offered to forward items for publication, to Earl. Also to send out the newsletter via E-mail to those who have the capability, to minimize postage expense. ( We have 22 members with E-mail and 8 without, Earl. I will furnish you the list when you want it.GL ).

Our annual fly in will be held each year on the fourth weekend of August.

Respectfully,
George D. Louden, Secretary.

Minutes of the Annual Meeting of the Posey Flyers, December 14, 2003

These are minutes of the Fall 2003 Meeting of the Posey Flyers held December 14, 2003 in Mr. James Hazlett's garage/model shop. Seventeen members were in attendance.

The meeting was called to order by President George Louden who introduced the officers present and asked members to introduce themselves, which they did. The secretary was not asked to read the minutes of the previous meeting so he didn't.

President Louden, without asking for motion, suggested that the fiscal year and the calendar year be the same and that dues be payable by January 15. Members who have not paid dues by January 15 will receive a nasty letter from the secretary. He reported that the club has 28 members.

The president commented on several safety problems that he had observed at the field. The first concerned the presence of "friends and family" on the flight line when safety barriers were not in place. This is not an acceptable practice. The second concerned the use of the field when a pilot was there alone and might be injured by a prop, etc. It was decided by voiced consensus that the position of the club is that any risk is assumed by the pilot.

The president asked for suggested activities to increase the use of the field. These might include scheduled events such as combat, fun flies, weekly gatherings and picnic type occurrences. A "Combat for Cash" event will be scheduled, instructions given and accomplish in 2004. It was later suggested that a weekly time (Wednesday PM or Saturday AM) be identified when all members try to be present at the field for "club flying".

It was moved, seconded and passed that club dues be increased to $30.00 for 2004 to cover the cost of fuel for field maintenance and other anticipated activities. These included improvement of the shelter and the digging of a shallow well as a water source for field improvement.

President Louden announced that he would call a meeting of the club on the first Sunday of the month to coordinate activities supporting the Grande Event (see later) starting at a later date to be announced. The Club Activities Director office for 2004 will be shared by Messers Baker and Johnson. Thank you! Eric Johnson will begin a newsletter which, it is hoped, will encourage greater participation at the field. The news letter will contain the club roster and will solicit a response from all members concerning their specific interests. That is, what type of flying interests you most? This could lead to interest groups and male bonding.

The following persons accepted position responsibilities for the year 2004:

President and Treasurer     George Louden
Vice President                   Roger Slocum
Secretary                           E. E. Hamlow
Field Marshall                    James Hazlett
The club elected Bryan Baker as Saftey Officer by written ballot.

President Louden introduced Mr. Steve Parker, President of the Evansville Radio Controlled Model Airplane Club (ERCMAC) (and also a Posey Flyer) who discussed a meeting with officers of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) to begin planning for the 2004 Grande Event which will be held in Evansville June 18, 19 and 20 and hosted by his club with help from Posey Flyers, Henderson, KY clubs and various others and the AMA. Mr. Louden will serve as Assistant Director. The objective of the event is to introduce the public to Radio Control as a hobby and sport. Planes, cars, boats, rockets and gliders will be featured. It is anticipated that clubs in this area will benefit significantly from the exposure afforded by the event, both in membership and, for ERCMAC, physical improvements for the club property. Many volunteers will be required to support this happening. There was a lengthy discussion.

A motion was made to adjourn and we did.

Respectfully,

EEH

Minutes of the Annual Meeting of the Posey Flyers, February 22, 2003

The meeting of the Posey Flyers was called to order at 1:00 PM in the Alexandrian Library, Mt. Vernon, IN. Fourteen members attended.

By-laws were mentioned and discussed as a matter of information.

The Treasurer's Report was distributed and was approved by the members present. An audit was not considered to be necessary.

A discussion of Year 2003 dues was undertaken and a motion to keep the dues at $20.00 per year was made, seconded and passed. A discussion of field improvements included comments on the smell of the Port-a-Potti.

Officers for the year 2003 were approved by acclaimation and are:

President - Mr. George Louden
Vice President - Mr. Roger Slocum
Secretary - Eugene Hamlow
Treasurer - George Louden
Field Marshall - Mr James Hazlett
Safety Officer - Mr. Earl Schneider

The president discussed the desirability of structured "events" at the field such as combat (ugh), "fun flies", contests featuring model types, etc. Eric Johnson volunteered to be Event Director and set the first "event" for July 26, or somewhere about that date.

There was discussion, and nothing more, of the need to consider the purchase or rental of a future flying site. Rental of an acre of productive farm ground ranges from $125 to $145/acre/year in Posey county (per Carl Lurker). No action was taken

There was discussion of safety at the field when ultralight aircraft were flying. It was stressed that these aircraft have right of way, privilege and own the field. Stay down, stay out of their way!!! Count your blessings. (See Field Map for "Safe Zones")

One hundred and forty dollars were received in dues.

Mostly, respectfully! EEH 2/25/03

Snowbirds take to air for holiday fly-in

By BETH SMITH, Gleaner staff
January 2, 2003

A coffee can full of broken propellers keeps a running tab on how many times remote-controlled planes have crashed in the name of fun Wednesday at the George A. Newcom Field outside Robards. Jim Hazlett, center, prepares another prop after his plane bit the dust and Roger Slocum, right, takes his "Pizza Box Flyer" out for another spin.

The icy cold of New Year's Day was no deterrent for dedicated members and friends of the Henderson R/C Airplane Club.

The Henderson club hosted the 13th annual Snowbird Radio Fly-In Wednesday at the George A. Newcom Field located off Busby Station Road in Robards. About eight clubs from across the country were represented with people traveling from as far away as Huntsville, Ala., to participate.

"We're kind of like the Polar Bear Club," said club member Jim Zieman. "We like to say we got the year started off right flying our airplanes."

The Henderson club, which boasts about 45 members, welcomed other flyers to spend the first day of the year for just a "fun day" of flying.

Gordon McKee traveled from Morgantown, Ky., to fly with the others.

"It's a good bunch to run around with," he said. "We love to fly and eat."

Danny Tyce traveled about 130 miles from Springfield, Tenn., to join in the festivities.

Tyce said he became involved in remote control flying simply because "it's just fun. Plus there's a lot of good people."

"When I first got into it, my kids were little," he said. "It's a family-oriented sport. My 18-year-old son is with me today (Wednesday)."

Tyce said there are a lot of teen-agers out doing things on New Year's Day that they shouldn't be doing.

"This keeps him occupied and with me," he said.

Zieman said the group doesn't spend all its time in Henderson County.

The flyers have traveled to West Palm Beach, Fla., Waverly, Neb., and Americus, Ga., to get together with other clubs.

Sometimes it's about competition, he said, and sometimes it's just that "everyone gets together to have a good time."

Zieman said flying radio-controlled airplanes is one hobby that could never get tiresome.

With some hobbies, he said, people "top out" and don't want to do it anymore.

"You could be in this hobby 100 years and never outgrow it. There's no reason to get bored with this," he said, adding that people can change their planes or "what you're doing with the airplanes."

There are many types of flying, Zieman said.

People can fly "scale airplanes" which are planes made on a scaled-down version of their bigger counterparts.

Some enjoy pattern flying, in which individuals are judged on the maneuvers they do with the planes.

Combat flying is also popular, he said.

"We tie a 30-foot streamer on the tail (of the plane), and you get points for cutting the ribbon off the other guy's plane," Zieman explained.

Usually in combat flying there are a lot of "mid-air crashes. Those are the crowd-pleasers," he said.

Zieman and his wife, Tina, love the sport so much they opened the Flying Z Hobbies store located in Sebree.

Zieman said he opened the store "so I could support my wife's habit on a wholesale basis."

Tina Zieman agreed that she is somewhat addicted to the hobby.

"I enjoy flying -- the aviation part of it," she said. "You build it (the plane) and you fly it."

Jim Zieman said time spent building a plane depends on what type of plane.

The older kits, he said, could take a person a month or more to put together. Now there are ARF (Almost Ready to Fly) kits which take between eight and 16 hours of building time, he said.

The Henderson R/C Airplane Club meets at the field every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

"Those are three days a week that rain or shine somebody's out here," he said.

But Zieman said club members are welcome to fly at any time.

Anyone interested in this hobby can call Zieman's store at 270-835-9001 or e-mail at www.flyingzhobbies.com.

Feb 16 2002 annual meeting

George and Jim The meeting was called to order by President George Louden at 1:15 PM Saturday February 16 At the Alexandrian public library meeting room A.

Thirteen members were present.
George Louden , Jim Bonser, Bryan Baker, Roger Slocum, Jim Hazlet, Jim Nelligan, Earl Schneider, Steve Parker, Bob Colvin, Ken Allen, Don Hinderlighter, Ray Young and Gordon Vogel.

CLUB DUES.
After a brief discussion we decided to stick with $20.00 for the year. Those present paid their dues. For you that were absent and are reading this by e-mail, DUES ARE DUE AS OF THE FIRST OF MARCH. You may mail your payment to George Louden, or pay them in person. Make checks payable to "Posey Flyers". You will receive a receipt and a membership card for 2002.

FISCAL YEAR
The club fiscal year will be March1 to March 1.

CLUB RULES
There are some ugly things that are going on in a couple of AMA clubs because they didn't have good bylaws. Lawsuits, one faction voting another faction out, and other crazy stuff that could have been prevented by having proper bylaws. AMA is requiring all chartered clubs to have bylaws in place and on record at AMA by (I think) the end of the year. Samples of proposed Field Rules and Bylaws were passed out for review. You may return them to George with comments or come to a review meeting that will be held the first Saturday in may in Jim Hazlet's garage. Contact George if you need samples.

FREQUENCY CONTROL
We now have a new more weather resistant frequency control board in our shelter. A transmitter impound shelf is also in the works.

CAMPING
Overnight camping will be allowed at the field. The camping area will be close to the tree line at the North edge of the site. We will get the porta-potty cleaned out in time for the season

CLUB OFFICERS
An election was held and the usual suspects were elected.
President, and treasurer: George Louden
Vice President and Web site Guru: Roger Slocum
Secretary: Jim Bonser
Safety Officer: Earl Schneider
Field Marshal: Jim Hazlet

CONTEST
We will sponsor an open combat contest in the spring to hone our skills for the big contests in Evansville and Henderson.

FIRST AID KIT
After the nasty accident in Evansville involving a hand in propeller, and a trip to the emergency room we decided that we should have a good first aid kit in our shelter. George volunteered to pick up a kit and a fire extinguisher.

SHOW AND TELL
Several people brought planes to look at. Did-ja ever see a flying rudder!

Meeting was adjourned in anticipation of another good year at the Posey patch.

DON'T FORGET TO PAY YOUR DUES !

Jim
